MARIN MID CENTURY ROUND
HOUSE | Sausalito, California
Complete exterior and interior renovation, including the interior design of historic round house by architect Mario Corbett (1954) Perched atop the Marin Headlands with sweeping views of the Bay from Tiburon to SF, the residence is rebuilt from the inside out. Scope of work includes updating major systems of Structure, and MEP to comply with Landmark and WUI requirements. Added 500 sq.ft. of new program to 1st Level where new foundations lowered to increase ceiling height. The Interior space maintains the original concept of radiusing wall forms and all new cabinetry clad in cedar vertical boards.
Custom built-in furniture designed throughout, and often radiused, evokes ship-like precision, underscoring the circular plan form. Entry space transformed with the new Stair location, becomes a sculptural circulation element, updating the materiality of the vertical boards with open vertical pickets and brass railing top. The new Stair design and placement balances the extraordinary view. The custom Dining banquette is placed in the relative center of the circular geometry, signifying the importance of the geometric location and the family experience of the center. The window wall glazing is updated to meet current T24 Code, while maintaining the original design intent of the window elevation. Exterior work includes new walls to update the Entry walkway, car parking and the terracing gardens on the Bayside of the property. New stone pathways radius out from various centers from the main house volume.
